SWAP Chicken Is Insanely On Point

I’ve never eaten chicken in my life, but my husband used to eat it daily – and just like I would love to get a good vegan mozzarella, he’s always looking for a good vegan meat. So when we found SWAP chicken, he was cautiously optimistic.

The SWAP chicken we found was on a chicken burger at fast food place called Odd Burger, and we happened to be eating there a lot that week, thankfully. After the first bite you could tell he was confused. He looked at the patty and tasted it again and looked at it again – and the shock was evident. He couldn’t believe it WASN’T chicken.

We ended up buying it from Vegan Supply – just 10 filets to see if it was as good at home. It is. He’s had it literally every day since. We’ve since bought the bigger pack and will need to be ordering it at least every few weeks the way he’s going through it!

Swap chicken uncooked

According to him, it’s just as juicy, tender, and flavorful as animal chicken — and watching it cook, I can see why he says that. It browns beautifully, sizzles in the pan, and even smells like the real thing. Our house hasn’t smelled like chicken since we were cooking it for one of our dogs, and it’s not a smell that I’m used to anymore!

I can’t personally compare it to the taste of chicken, but from a visual and sensory point of view, it nails every detail.

You can even cook it in the air fryer with some oil, and it comes out great.

What I love most is how versatile it is. Saverio’s used it in wraps, stir-fries, sandwiches, bowls, and pastas, and it works perfectly every time.

A Few Interesting Facts About SWAP Chicken

The product is made by a French-food tech company originally called Umiami, founded around 2020 in France. – Source

In October 2024, Umiami officially re-branded itself as SWAP (or SWAP Food) to reflect its mission of making it easy to “swap” animal-based protein for plant-based. – Source

It says you should use SWAP chicken within 3 days of thawing, but it came to us thawed at first and you are not supposed to refreeze it. I wrote to ask them why, but they haven’t written back. So we took our chances, and it lasted for 6 days in the fridge without any issue. We even refroze a few filets after they had been in the fridge for a few days and when thawed out, they were fine. I mean, you can eat these things raw according to SWAP, so we weren’t that worried. But, I’m assuming it’s a liability thing for why they say not to keep it longer than 3 days. Maybe they’ll write back and I’ll update!

Where To Get SWAP Chicken In Canada

Right now, it’s still at Odd Burger, but to buy the actual filets, we can only get it from Vegan Supply, which is a bit of a pain because shipping makes it unfreeze a bit, but it’s worth the effort.

This plant-based chicken is so good that I can’t see it not being widely available within a short period of time. There will be a lot of demand for it as more and more people start to eat it.

If you’ve ever missed chicken or just want a plant-based protein that’s incredibly realistic, SWAP Chicken is hands-down the best we’ve found. Saverio gives it a twice daily five stars — and that’s saying something.
