I’ve seen some contradicting thoughts on whether or not the Pecan Oat Latte at Starbucks can be made vegan or not. Mostly, one site report that there was honey in the drink, which made it not vegan. I wrote directly into Starbucks to find out what they had to say, and here was the reply they sent me.
To clarify, the pecan-flavored syrup contains sugar, water, natural flavor (pecan), salt, potassium sorbate, and citric acid, which are dairy-free and honey-free. The pecan crunch topping is made from cane sugar, natural flavor (pecan), salt, corn protein glaze, fruit and vegetable juice for color (carrots, apple), turmeric for color, and rice hulls, all of which are also dairy-free.
Therefore, the new Pecan Oat Latte at Starbucks IS vegan according to their customer service and the ingredients listed.
What The Pecan Oat Latte At Starbucks Tastes Like
I love the Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato, and that’s pretty much all I’ve been getting at Starbucks, but I decided I needed to try the Pecan Oat Latte as well.
The Hot Version
I find a lot of their nutty coffees just taste like hazelnut to me, but this one is definitely different. At first, I didn’t like the taste. I think there are spices in there and that’s all I could taste. However, my husband had a sip at the same time and said it tasted like pecan dust. So I’m wondering if I was getting the bitter taste from the outside of pecans.
As I drank the coffee down, I started to like it more. It had a subtle but nutty flavor to it. It wasn’t too sweet. It wasn’t bitter. It was just right.
It’s not something I would ever turn down if offered to me.
It was creamy and good right to the last drop.
But I do like my coffees a little sweeter, so I’m not sure I would order it again over the Apple Crisp.
The Cold Version
Sometimes the cold drinks can taste better, in my opinion.
But this one tastes exactly like the hot version to me. It still has that weird spicy taste to me, and my husband still says tases like pecan dust – the stuff found in the bottom of the pecan bag or container.
It does have the nondairy vanilla cold foam, which I’ve had before and liked, but I couldn’t taste it because the spicy flavor stood out to me more.
I wouldn’t order it again. There are many other drinks that I would rather order than this one – hot or cold.
Bottom line: The Pecan Oat Latte coffee is vegan as is and it doesn’t taste like hazelnut but, instead, like pecan dust according to my husband and subtle but noticeable spices according to me.
