Doing what you love for a career is awesome. I speak from experience. It’s not always rainbows and lollipops, but it feels good to know that you are using your skills and strengths in a way that can help other people. If you are looking to develop a creative career, then Creating Your Dream Career with Holley M. Kholi-Murchison is a great Skillshare class to take.
What The Creating Your Dream Career Class Is Meant To Teach
This is a short Skillshare class that helps you look at your past and present and figure out what you want for your future.
As you go through the class, you start to feel more clear about your strengths and skills and what your vision of an ideal career would be.
The class is designed to help you get more clear on who you are and what you have to offer other people.
My Thoughts On The Creating Your Dream Career Class
You will reflect on what skills you currently have and are already applying to your life. If you are unsure of what those skills are, Holley asks a great question that helps you understand what your skills truly are and see them more clearly than you’ve probably ever seen them before.
The class is only about 30 minutes long, so it’s not an intensive class that helps you deep dive into your life as Lifebook does. But it definitely helps you define your strengths and skills by looking at your past and present through a series of questions and journal prompts.
Holley includes a template to go along with the course that includes all the exercises she mentions throughout the class. The template doesn’t match the video lesson. My guess is that she reworded the questions and journal prompts in the worksheet to be clearer and more precise. But, in the video lesson, she does give examples of how she would respond to the worksheet’s questions and prompts which is beneficial.
At the end of the class, she gets you to create some clear goals for the next year and then create an action plan for the next three months to help you reach those goals.
I like how she demonstrated that a goal can be too vague. For instance, create daily content for the next three months can be a goal, but it’s vague. There are other elements involved in that gaol such as maintaining a content calendar, come up with topics that are relevant, etc.
After you identify your strengths and skills and piece together how you can use them in a career, you are on your own. it’s your job to move forward taking action and refining your goals for your dream career.
In summary, in the class you will:
- Define what you bring to the table.
- Start to think about how you can combine your skills and talents and interests to create a dream career.
- Create some goals that you would like to obtain in relation to your dream career.
I finished the class feeling a sense of commitment to what I already have planned for the upcoming year. The class reaffirmed to me that I’m doing what I should be doing and that my plans are perfect for me and my strengths.
I’m Already Engaged In My Dream Career
I’ve always been someone who can change people’s lives through my recommendations. That’s a skill I have. But it’s important that I have the experience and insight when I’m recommending something otherwise it just doesn’t stick. In other words, I can’t tell people what I think is awesome – and convince them to make changes in their lives – if I haven’t tried or done it myself.
Throughout my life, I have helped people quit smoking, become vegan, find healthier relationships, and change their career paths because those are all things I’ve done in my life. And, on a more detailed level, I’ve helped people decide whether or not to take courses, read books, and buy products that may or may not help them.
I’m also good at recommending things for personal growth as I’ve done a TON of that over the years. I’ve always followed the beat of my own drum, but I’ve come a long way from my younger years when it comes to honing in on who I am, what I enjoy, and what I want out of life. And I’ve done that thanks to certain books, courses, and products.
I’m happier, more fulfilled, and more successful – and those are all things I want to help other people be.
Since I’ve always enjoyed writing, it was natural for me to create a career that combines writing with recommending and encouraging.
This Class Is Good For Anyone Who Wants To Achieve Their Dream Career
As long as you have a vision of doing something you love, this class can help you understand what your strengths are and how you can use them to achieve a career your love.
It’s a class that helps you reflect on your life and what you most want to do in it, and then develop some action steps to move forward to that vision.
It’s not intensive, by any means, but it does help you reflect and do some thinking that could change the course of what you do from this point forward. It uses journal prompts to help you see things more clearly.
If you don’t know what you are good at, this class can help you discover your skills and talents.
If you know what you are good at, and just want a reminder that you are doing the right thing, the journal prompts are going to help you reflect and feel that sense of clarity and determination.
