My dad died in September of 2023 and I have been trying to speak to him ever since. My dad wasn’t much for speaking from the heart in this life, but I thought for sure he would reach out in the afterlife. He hasn’t. So I’m always trying to read books or take courses or keep speaking to spirit relevant in my mind so I can practice things that may help open communication. That’s why Making The Afterlife Connection was appealing to me. I didn’t read the tagline to the book, though. I assumed it was about steps to take to make the afterlife connection from the title, but it’s more of a detailed journey on how the author made the afterlife connection. Still, it gave me hope that my dad will one day connect.
I listened to this audiobook on my Empower You subscription through Hay House. I wish it came with worksheets or a complementary PDF of some sort, but Hay House isn’t doing that yet.
The Message Is Clear In Making The Afterlife Connection
The main message of Suzanne’s story is that you can connect to the afterlife. They are there and when they want to talk, you can talk to them.
In Suzanne’s case, the desire to want to talk to the afterlife came after her step-daughter died. And it took 3 years for her to connect with her.
The story behind this gave me hope and was also kind of depressing.
The Hope
The reason it took years for her step-daughter to come is on purpose, so Suzanne could work her way into mediumship. If she has talked to Susan immediately, she may not have had the journey she had towards her current career. I get that, and it makes me think my dad hasn’t come through because of some reason like this.
The Depressing Aspect
It’s depressing to know that spirit may be working through their own shit on the other side and that’s why they are not coming through. This is what I got as Suzanne talked about how spirit is on the other side.
As far as I knew, they become much more aware and loving on the other side. To think that my dad might still be the grumpy guy he was in body is depressing to me. That’s sad. And it might be the reason he’s not talking to me. He didn’t like to communicate about real life things. I would love for him to feel happy and aware and loving.
I Enjoyed Listening To Suzanne’s Story
I did enjoy listening to her story as she went from losing Susan to becoming who she is today. It was relatable and a good story.
I can’t type her name without thinking about how Susan would call her from the other side… “Hey, Suzaannne.” It’s a drawn out way of saying it and it was cute and personable. It made me think of how my dad used to say hi to me when I would come over and he was feeling good. I hadn’t thought about that in a while.
She details her journey with spirit and getting to know or improve her mediumship gifts.
It’s a story that makes you believe spirit is out there and with effort and time you could talk to spirit too.
The Learning How To Connect With Spirit Aspect
At the end of each chapter, she has a ‘Your Turn‘ lesson. Basically she gets you to implement what she just talked about in the chapter, such as:
- Examine your beliefs and set an intention to be open to miracles.
- Educate yourself about things like afterlife, consciousness, and near death experiences.
- Practice Psychometry to get evidence.
- Meditate with the person you want to connect with in mind.
- Ask for evidence.
- Engage in automatic writing.
- Clear your chakras.
- Get to know your spirit guides.
- Use binaural beats to ground yourself.
Again, this ‘Your Turn‘ aspect would be better with a worksheet. Hay House should be able to easily make one to download with the books. I usually listen to my audiobooks while on a walk or driving somewhere, and I can’t work on the things at the moment. A worksheet would help remind me of what was talked about and then help me do the exercises.
A Noticeable Shift I Had While Listening To Making The Afterlife Connection
I did not contact my dad or anyone else while listening this book.
However, I did spend one night waking up trying to connect with my dad, which is something I’ve never done because at night I’m too scared to do that. So maybe I shifted my fear around connecting to the spirit world a bit.
This is a fear I’ve had ever since seeing a shadow person walking down the hallway in my parents home when I was around 5 years old. A fear that accumulated as I would hear footsteps in my childhood bedroom and see my window shade snap up for no reason. A fear that made me put a pillow over my head at night and pray not to see, hear, or sense anything.
It’s no wonder I can’t connect to the spirit world! I’m scared shitless of it!
This book helped me realize that it’s not so scary. It’s not all about evil spirits and ghosts that want to scare me. It’s above deceased loved ones that want to reach out and reconnect.
Yes There Was Stuff That I Didn’t Resonate With
As with all books, especially spiritual books, there was some stuff that I don’t resonate with. Things that made me say out loud, “I’m not so sure about that!”
It’s funny that I have skepticism towards certain things but fully believe in other things. For instance, the whole angel aspect is a little out there for me.
But there was lots of stuff I did resonate with. There was a lot of stuff that made me want to keep trying to connect to my dad.
In fact, her story kind of made me want to take my own journey towards mediumship.
I recommend this book if you want to believe in connecting to spirit and deceased loved ones… Believe both that others can connect and you can connect.
4 Habits I Would Recommend From Reading This Book
Here are some habits, inspired by Making The Afterlife Connection, that I would suggest if you want to connect with the afterlife..
1. Daily “Sit in the Power” practice
-
Habit: Schedule 10–15 minutes a day just to sit quietly, focus on your heart center, and expand your awareness to connect with higher consciousness.
-
Why: Builds sensitivity, calm, and connection.
2. Spirit Journaling
-
Habit: Each morning, write one question to your guides or loved ones, then write down anything that flows back, even if you doubt it.
-
Why: Strengthens trust and helps you separate inspiration from imagination over time.
3. Sign Watch
-
Habit: Intentionally notice and record any synchronicities or repeating signs (numbers, animals, music, etc.) each day.
-
Why: Your loved ones love to give signs and you can notice them this way.
4. Loving-Kindness Check-Ins
-
Habit: Before bed, send a beam of love to the spirit world and to anyone you wish to connect with.
-
Why: Builds the frequency of love, which Giesemann explains is the best ‘Wi-Fi’ for spirit contact.
You can check out this book on Empower You as an audiobook. It’s also on Amazon as an audiobook.
Let me know if you read the book in the comments below. I’m interested to know if anyone had a shift where they were able to communicate with deceased loved ones.
